If you live in my part of the world, today is the first day of summer.

We are savoring summer and spending a lot of time at the pool and lake these days. It’s fun watching the kids simply enjoy the care and ease that comes with a slower, more relaxed pace.

I know it’s harder for us adults to slow down, when there’s so much responsibility on our plates. Working, putting food on the table, managing the budget, cooking, laundry, tending to the kids needs, taking care of ourselves…it’s a lot.

It’s easy to be consumed by our worrisome thoughts and gripped by the stress that comes when we’re just trying to survive another day.

I find the gift of summer is to practice embracing wherever you are in life – the mess, the chaos and the joy – all of it.

If you let it, the summer energy allows you to remember what it was like when your worries were less and life was simpler – when all you had to think about was when to be back for dinner.

You were carefree, relaxed and lighter back then.
